Archers Deepika Kumari - Papa did not like to shoot my arrow
Deepika was born in a small village named Ratuchatti, about 12 km from Ranchi, the capital of Jharkhand. Father Shiva Narayan Prajapati first worked as a laborer, later started running a tampo. He had neither his own farm nor garden. But Deepika liked the fruits of others in the garden. Whenever there was a chance, she would hit the mangoes on the trees and hit the ground.
The parents did not like their mischief at all. There was a lot of scolding, but it did not have much effect on Deepika. A father struggling with poverty and scarcity wanted his daughter to become self-sufficient by studying and writing. So got him enrolled in the government school in the village. Householders often started receiving complaints of mischief from school.
Deepika says, the mother was a nurse at the hospital. Most of my time was spent with my father. He used to go to school leaving me and explain all the way that I should concentrate in studies. Once during summer vacation she went to Nanihal Lohardaga. There was an archery competition going on there. For the first time he saw girls shooting with arrows and bows. For the first time they came to know that girls are given archery training.
Enlisted the name of a friend to take part in the competition. She landed on the field without any preparation, so it was sure to lose. Even though Deepika could not win that competition, but this match definitely showed her dream of becoming an archer. When she told her mother that she wanted to become an archer, she did not understand anything.
Mother Geeta says proudly today, when Deepika told me that she wants to learn archery, I felt strange. I asked - what is this archery? So he told me the story of Mahabharata. She told that just as the Pandavas of Mahabharata do battle with arrows, she wants to do archery by shooting arrows.
When Dad came to know about this, he was very angry. He felt that the daughter's mind had returned. Instead of reading and writing, she wants to shoot arrows. What will you get from archery? But Deepika did not listen. Eventually, the daughter had to bow to her insistence. This is the year of 2005. At that time Deepika was 12 years old. Arjun Archery of Kharsawa village reached the academy with his parents.
On seeing Deepika, the coach said, this girl is very thin. Its weight is very less, how will it be able to lift a heavy bow? Everyone felt that admission would not be possible. But meanwhile, Deepika went ahead and said to the coach - Sir, you give me only three months time. In the meantime, if my performance is not right, then you expel me. This made the coach believe that the girl has power. Got admission.
Mother Geeta says - Deepika's dreams were very high from the beginning. She wanted to change the circumstances of her family. When the children of her age used to talk about sports, she used to talk about taking us on an airplane. Even if the father was angry in the beginning, today he is not happy with the success of his daughter. He says - People stop and ask that you are the father of Deepika? Proud to hear this.
He did very well while training in Kharsawa. A year later, in 2006, he was admitted to the Tata Archery Academy. He got the sky of his dreams by coming here. She soon met her goal, with strong intentions and hard work. At the age of 15, he won the 11th Youth World Archery Championship. This victory was his first knock on the world stage.
This victory earned him the title of World Number One. After this, the process of success started. Won a bronze medal in the 2010 Asian Games. In the same year, he won two gold medals at the Commonwealth Games. In 2012, he was awarded the Arjuna Award. His first coach Sumant Mohanty says, to be a good archer, one must have sharp eyes, accurate aiming and fine hands. Deepika has all these characteristics. According to Papa's wish, he continued his studies with archery. Passed 12th examination from Karimpur City College, Jamshedpur.
The principal of the college, Mohammad Zakaria, says, it feels very deep that Deepika has been a student of our college. Despite such success, it does not have any kind of gurur As a child, Deepika says, I was very naughty and stubborn. Perhaps it was because of the stubbornness that she became an archer. I did not know anything about a career in this field then. I just chose it to play. Now archery is my life. It is not that Deepika never faced defeat. He suffered a major setback after his loss at the London Olympics. But she knows well to stand again after the defeat.
